New additions: Nevada, Arizona State
Dropped out: North Carolina, North Carolina State
I can hear readers through the wire shouting, "So, let me get this straight. You have an undefeated SEC team at #10, the team they just beat at #4, and behind a one-loss mid-major? Are you high or just stupid?" Simply put, Auburn has been steadily rising, but they have played games way too closely thanks to a woefully inconsistent defense. Meanwhile, Alabama has been playing consistent football, and as Justin noted, easily could have been winning 42-7 at the half last week. The Alabama 28-27 final follows a 17-14 victory over Mississippi State, a 27-24 OT victory over Clemson, a 37-34 victory over Kentucky, and one touchdown victories over South Carolina and LSU. Simply put, Auburn is quite a ways behind TCU, Oregon, and Stanford, who have been absolutely crushing everybody, especially those that they are supposed to beat.
After all that, let me say that I am eagerly cheering for Auburn to win this weekend. I feel so dirty.
